Created to Reflect His Glory

Recognizing that we are all image bearers of the Creator God, students are encouraged to develop their creative gifts for His glory. Through Worship and the Dramatic, Musical, and Visual Arts, students gain a high level of proficiency built on a solid instructional foundation perpetuating a Christian worldview. They are given multiple opportunities to develop and hone their craft by serving in school Worship Services, displaying, and donating artwork for charity, performing in school, district, and state-wide concerts, and performing in school drama productions.

Elementary Art
Our Elementary Art Enrichment program is built on the foundational truth that God is the original Creator, the "ultimate artist" who spoke the universe into existence. Because every student is uniquely fashioned in His image as an "image-bearer," we believe they are gifted with the capacity for creativity. Our mission is to help students discover these creative gifts and accept the responsibility of developing them as good stewards of God’s talent. We provide a structured journey where students build their skills year after year, exploring the Elements and Principles of Art alongside a rich variety of mediums, including drawing, painting, printmaking, fiber arts, Arts & Crafts, and clay.

Elementary Music
Our Elementary Music Program nurtures a love for music while helping students grow creatively and spiritually in a Christ-centered environment. Students learn foundational music skills such as rhythm, melody, singing, movement, and basic music reading, while being introduced to a variety of instruments and musical styles. Biblical values are woven into lessons through songs and listening examples and discussions about using our God-given gifts to glorify Him. Special activities include class performances, and learning to play a variety of instruments, giving students meaningful opportunities to build confidence, and share their talents.

Elementary Musicals
Each year, our elementary students present an annual Christmas program that celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. Involving all elementary grade levels, this special event features ensemble singing, solos, acting, dancing and a variety of other expressions that tell the Christmas story. The program allows students to work together, build confidence, and share their talents while reminding families and the school community of the true meaning of Christmas.

Elementary Honor Chorus
We are thrilled to celebrate the gift of music through our participation in the Statewide Elementary Honor Chorus where selected students travel to Athens, GA to rehearse a challenging repertoire that leads to a professional public performance! This prestigious event brings together the most talented young vocalists from across the state for an intensive, two-day choral experience. For our students, it is more than just a performance; it is an opportunity to use their God-given talents to strive for excellence and find harmony with others. Participation in the Honor Chorus allows our students to refine their craft, build community, and represent our school.

Elementary Praise Team and Worship Band
Each day our lower school students begin the day with Praise and Worship. Our elementary students are invited to join the Praise Team. Students from each grade take the stage, singing songs of worship to our Creator. They offer their praises with joyful hearts to the Lord as they lead worship through song, motions, and playing instruments. This encourages students to grow in their faith while giving them leadership opportunities and a platform to use the gifts and talents God has given them.

Upper School Art
Our Middle School Art Program helps students transition from discovery of their gifts and talents to the intentional development of their God-given talents. We challenge students to become 'good stewards' of their abilities by mastering the Elements & Principles of Art and exploring more technical drawing skills and different genres throughout Art History. Through refined instruction in drawing, painting, fiber arts/weaving, & clay students are encouraged to find their unique artistic voices. We teach that technical excellence is a form of worship, preparing students to use their art to communicate truth and beauty to the world around them.

Our High School Visual Arts program is a structured journey of stewardship, designed to help students master their God-given talents for His glory. By exploring a plethora of mediums and refining their technical abilities, students move beyond self-expression to find a unique artistic voice that serves as a powerful act of worship. Drawing & Painting: Mastering observational skills and color theory. Printmaking & Fiber Arts: Exploring texture, pattern, and traditional craft. Ceramics & Clay: Understanding form and the "Potter/Clay" relationship. Our ultimate hope is to deploy these talents to serve our community—leaving people, places, and things better than we found them."

Upper School Art Honor Society
Our High School Art program extends beyond the classroom through the National Art Honor Society (NAHS), where students step into leadership roles. This Honor Society challenges students to view their artistic gifts as tools for service and community enrichment. Throughout the year, members translate their talents into action through diverse service initiatives—from face painting for our family nights to our 'Kindness Rocks' program, which raises vital funds for local outreach projects and supports the Art Enrichment program. In NAHS, we don't just create art; we use it to serve the heart of our SHCA school & community.

Our NAHS goal is to leave people, places, and things better than we found them and bring Art to our community.

Upper School Band
Our Middle and High School Band programs provide students with opportunities to grow musically through performance, discipline, and teamwork. Both bands perform 3-4 concerts a year, including hosting our SHCA Band Festival where their performances are evaluated by a respected guest clinician who encourages artistic development through constructive feedback. Each year we have band members who participate in the District Honor Band, All-State Band, District Solo and Ensemble, and District First Year Honor Band, gaining valuable experience performing with these honor ensembles. The bands perform a wide range of musical styles while building confidence, leadership, and a strong appreciation for excellence in music and honoring Christ with their musical gifts.

Upper School Chorus
At Sugar Hill Christian Academy, our Chorus program is more than just a class—it is a community dedicated to the pursuit of musical excellence and the stewardship of our God-given voices. We believe in creating and making music for the sake of music and in glorifying God through our practice, performances, and fellowship. The Choral Program includes Middle School Chorus, High School Chorus, and Chorale (an audition only choir for 8th-12th) with various performances throughout the school year which can be found on the school calendar. We strive to foster an environment of "courageous singing," where every student is encouraged to find their voice and contribute to a sound greater than themselves both in the group and outside of it.

Upper School Tri-M
SHCA has had an active Tri-M Music Honor Society (a program of the National Association for Music Education) since 2017. Tri-M Music Honor Society recognizes our musicians who demonstrate exceptional musical achievement, academic excellence, and a heart for Christian leadership. Students are invited to apply for membership based on rigorous requirements that meet the honor society's standards. Members engage in a variety of service projects throughout the year, using their musical talents to serve the school and local community through performances, outreach events, and volunteer activities. These experiences encourage students to develop responsibility, character, and a lifelong commitment to using music as a means of service.

Upper School Drama
Upper School Drama invites students to explore storytelling, performance, and collaboration as a means of reflecting the creativity of our Creator God. Grounded in a solid instructional foundation and a distinctly Christian worldview, students develop high-level theatrical skills while learning to use their gifts for God’s glory. Through participation in school drama productions, students grow in confidence, discipline, and artistic excellence, honing their craft both on and off the stage. Drama provides meaningful opportunities for students to serve their community, contribute to school life, and engage thoughtfully with culture, all while recognizing themselves and others as image bearers called to create with purpose.

Upper School Praise Team and Worship Band
Middle school worship band is an exciting developmental program for aspiring young worship leaders. The class is open to 7th and 8th grade musicians. Each week the class meets for rehearsal in the chapel, and once a month the group will lead praise and worship in the sanctuary.

High school worship band is a great opportunity for students to serve by leading worship. Every week the high school worship band meets for rehearsal in the chapel. On Mondays they lead worship in the chapel for their upper school peers. In addition, this group also leads worship at special retreat events and all school worship services.
